It occurs to me that I am becoming crankier each year. At the rate I am going, I will be sitting in my rocker yelling at the kids in my lawn in about two years (I already have the rocker and we are working on purchasing the lawn...STILL working on it). I know those of you who love me are going to try to raise an objection, but hear me out. Once you hear the latest thing I am railing against, I am certain you will agree with me that I am off the cranky chart.
I hate it hate it hate it, when you thank someone and they say, "No problem". NO PROBLEM? Oh well, it never occurred to me that there might have been a problem until you said, "no problem!" Now there is a thought in my mind that it perhaps was a problem but you are some how bigger than that and are willing to over look it. Here, I thought you were doing something nice for the joy of doing something nice, and now I learn that you in fact got nothing out of it, not even a problem. It registered only slightly above a problem for you. Not a joy, not a problem, just a thing you did cause you are big enough not to be bothered by doing things for people. URGH!
And it is usually said in the non nonchalant, lazes-fare sort of "la di da, ho hum" voice. "Oh, saving your kitten was "no problem", all in a day's work...blah blah blah" NO PROBLEM? Well never mind, then I will save my gratitude for someone for whom it was a problem but they were grateful for the opportunity to extend the hand of kindness in a dark dark world.
(See what i am mean? I am just looking for something to be angry about. I guess in the absence of real problems i have invented a problem with "no problem").
That one I can live with. The one that drives me up a wall is when people say, "Could I have ...?" at a restaurant or other food-related emporium. Of course you may have it if it is on the menu and you have the money to pay. Instead, try, "I will have ..." or, less directly, "I would like ....".

Fleenor! That is so funny! I have never thought about that one and I am fairly certain I say it. I have a friend who hates when people order Beef Aus Jus with juice. Translation: "I would beef with juice with juice"
